Software
Many
folks would think it odd that Human Rights and Computer software go
together, but for many access to IT opportunities is a Human Rights
Issue - Think Burma, China, Folks on benefits and the
international poor - for them Open Source Software is often the only
route to being able to communicate.
Companies
that develop code and programs for financial rewards are following the
capitalist ideal and rewards for share holders. The Open Source world
develops code and programs for the reward of the programer and all
users, without the shareholders!

Careware
An
example of different thinking in the real world comes from Paul Lutus,
the author of the Arachnophilia HTML editor.
Whilst
HTML editors have moved on to become more and more
sophisticated, Arachnophilia is still there to be used and is as good
as ever, having gone cross platform running on Java.
The
License agreement is very simple - Use it and be nice to other folks.
Its called “Careware”.

Conflict
Transformation
Another
area of interest is Conflict Transformation - so Buddhist and modern
world. Johan Galtung is a leading world authority on Conflict
Transformation. He uses the Transcend Methodology of Conflict
transformation and advises such folks as the United Nations on how to
solve a few international problems.
